Personal Reflection: I understand that the diameter of your education determines the circumference of your knowledge. The MSUrban STEM program has been one of the most effective and memorable learning experiences to me as an educator and instructional coach. I have gained valuable skills, resources and habits of mind that have truly allowed me to grow and become more effective in my circles of influence and in my work. Most importantly, I have been challenged to think critically about what I do and analyze the progress and effectiveness of my work as STEAM practitioner. Anticipation of Change: I anticipate continuing to enhance my expertise through more exploration of knowledge through reading, travel, and experiences that yield purposeful and innovative thoughts and actions. I also anticipate effecting change among my colleagues and students through the continued utilization of innovative instructional methods and technology. Lastly, after using my STEMulating Dance program to make math and science connections through dance, I want to make dance and the arts an integral part of our STEM program, thereby becoming a STEAM school. Diversifying My Personal Learning Network: Currently, I mostly collaborate with school and MSUrban STEM colleagues. I am willing to part with my comfort zone of individualized work and furthering my collaboration with other STEM professionals by expanding my professional circle of STEM educators. By diversifying my network, this would allow me to engage more in thoughtful professional discourse, make important paradigm shifts, think out of the box and yield key opportunities and resources. This is of ultimate importance as I aim to enhance the real life STEM experiences, civic engagement and research opportunities for our staff and students. Abandoning the Past: I believe that I am courageous enough to abandon the past traditional ways of thinking, teaching and coaching. I am willing to immerse myself in ongoing thoughtful analysis of current STEM ideas, theologies, and best practices for instruction and leadership, as they are not stagnant. I will challenge myself to think out of the box, and stay abreast of current trends through the use of professional STEM organizations and educational media resources.
